Anybody out there a DIY-er? I am most definitely. I enjoy a good project, though I feel like, around the farm, the projects are a bit overwhelming. I love when a project can be started and finished in one day. Unfinished project make me absolutely crazy. What a good time now to work on a little update for your home. It’s hot outside, so work on something inside. If you have kids going back to school or off to college, it may be that refreshing your home can bring some newness or practicality to the new school year. Maybe your kids need a place to work on home work or a reading nook. I’m a firm believer in a piece of second hand furniture and a fresh coat of paint to communicate the focus for our school year! If you’re looking for projects that deliver a strong return without turning your weekend into a full home renovation, focus on improvements that increase curb appeal, make the home feel well maintained, and modernize key spaces. These five projects consistently have a positive impact.

1. Refresh Your Front Door & Entryway 🚪

Update your front door for an easy lift!

The front entry creates the first impression, and buyers form opinions within seconds.

Weekend checklist:

• Paint the front door a classic color (black, navy, deep green, or red)
• Replace dated house numbers
• Install a new mailbox if visible

Here’s the order I’d prioritize for the biggest visual impact per dollar:

These projects often cost less than $2,000 combined but can make a home feel significantly newer and more inviting. When buyers walk into a home that feels clean, bright, and well maintained, they’re more likely to perceive it as worth the asking price.

The market is a little “stale” right now! People are having a hard time buying when gas costs too much and our financial future is in question. It’s not really about interest rates, since those haven’t really changed that much. It’s more about confidence. People are just holding their money and their lending potential close to their vest. However, the homes that go on the market looking modern, clean, and well cared for, as opposed to out-dated and needing work, go faster than others. Average days on market are around 60 so if you plan to sell be patient and thorough. If you are looking to buy, the market is open to you! It is always a great time to buy in the Charlotte are, but right now you have the ability to actually get a bit of a deal with a lot of options to choose from.

Aside from putting your home on the market, these updates can really add life and energy to your space. The current state of the economy may have you in a sour mood, not being able to spend your money like you want. I always feel like a little home face lift can lift my spirits. My next project, maybe in the next couple weeks is an accent wall in the dining room! Also, a little reorganization removing a bookcase in that space to replace it with a buffet table (if I can find a great one second hand) and a couple of lamps.
